Teaching Experience

2005-2009
Critic: RISD Sculpture Department Providence, RI

Classes- Kinetics Studio 3cr, Casting Studio 3cr., Advanced Casting Studio 3cr., Artist Projects 3cr., Sophomore Sculpture 6cr

Service- I designed curriculums, advised students, prepared lectures and facilitated critiques for undergraduate and graduate students. Organized a panel discussion- Life after Art School, with The Sculpture Department and local community art groups. I planned student trips to New York City and developed an internship program for RISD students at the Marie Walsh Sharpe Foundation Studio Program in NYC. I ordered departmental supplies and maintained shop facilities. I piloted a new class titled Artist Projects. This class is designed to give students the opportunity to apprentice with an artist as they worked on a large-scale sculptural project. I worked with 10 students to create a full-scale model of a HUMMER H3 covered in $35,000 worth of discarded scratch tickets.

2004-2009

Beginning Foundry 3cr, Casting Studio 3cr, Places, Site and Media 3cr, Soft Sculpture 3cr.

Service- I worked with graduate and undergraduate students from colleges throughout the country. In the casting class students with various skill levels were introduced to the fundamentals of wax-working, bronze casting, and finishing techniques. Places, Site and Media is a multi-disciplined course that encourages students to experiment with several mediums in sites throughout Providence. I designed the curriculum, prepared lectures, facilitated critiques, coordinated visiting artists, ordered supplies and maintained the facility.

2004-2005

A nine-month visiting artist position in the Sculpture Department

Classes-Beginning Sculpture 3cr., Mold Making and Casting 3cr., Mixed Media 3cr., 3-D Design 3cr., Senior Seminar 3cr., and two semesters of Intermediate/Advanced Sculpture 3cr.

Service: I designed curriculums for six classes, advised students, prepared lectures and facilitated critiques for undergraduate and graduate students. I organized and participated in interdepartmental Graduate Reviews, coordinated visiting artists, was the sponsoring faculty for The Sculpture Club. I organized a trip for students to visit New York. I was responsible for ordering departmental supplies and maintaining the metal shop. I was on the committee to select incoming graduate students.

Tools to Entice: Co-taught with Carla Edwards. Concepts in contemporary sculpture a seminar and studio based course. Through lectures and discussion the class had a mission to determine what it takes to make good art, and what keeps people looking at it. Students made their own work while trying to answer these questions.
