In my work trees tell the passing of time, miniature houses watch each other suspiciously, and human limbs grow from tree stumps. The sculptures tell a story and personify the relationships and stereotypes that we deal with daily. My work focuses on how our human wants often take precedence over environmental needs. I play out fantastical scenarios in which nature rebels against our constant pruning and takes the upper hand. In my sculptures and installations, the landscape becomes a stage on which anything may happen.

The city and nature’s struggle to survive within it’s concrete confines is my major influence. As they conspired I became a beautiful flower is a piece I have recently finished. In this work a traffic cone is covered in paper petals, a jarringly bright stamen sprouts from the top of the cone. Colors vibrate against each other and the traffic cone though not completely covered is transformed.

Working with paper, fibers, and found objects, I make sculptures that depict a struggle between what the object originally was and how a pseudo natural force has altered it. My sculptures and installations immerse the viewer into a landscaped environment created with unexpected materials. These pieces draw from the idyllic beauty and wonder of the natural world and force it to interact with the manufactured one we have created.
